Sunset near Mussel Rock

California, Nov 9, 2011, Off to the left is the silhouette of two century plants in their blooming stage. Century plants grow their stocks and bloom only once in their lifetime. The term century is a little bit of a misnomer since they normally only live about 50 years. The plant stocks you see here are about ten feet high but they are known to get close to thirty feet. What is really amazing is that the stocks reach this height in less than a month… they bloom, and then they die.
